Swimming instructor (SI) is a qualified instructor for swimming, diving, diving and lifeguarding in Switzerland.

The swimming instructor / the swimming instructor teaches individuals and groups of all ages and ability levels in all disciplines of swimming sport: swimming , diving , water jumping , lifesaving , water polo , synchronized swimming and water aerobics . In water familiarization courses with children of preschool age, they practice playful handling of the water and teach core movements and swimming techniques , breaststroke , crawl and back crawl .

Swimming instructors teach children and young people of all levels in school swimming and popular sports in schools. They put together a teaching and training program for the relevant target group. Particular emphasis is placed on developing social skills while having fun and games together. They also train young people and adults for competitions and coordinate them together with the group.

As trainers, they teach prospective leaders for baby, children, school swimming, handicapped, senior, lifeguard swimming and train youth + sports leaders.

conditions

For this activity, the swimming instructor needs his own swimming skills (technique swimming, diving, water jumping, lifeguarding, water polo, synchronized swimming) and theoretical knowledge (training theory, etc.) and training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation and a certification II in lifeguards , above all enthusiasm, empathy and pedagogical skills, as well as corresponding methodological and didactic skills and abilities.

education

The training builds on the three-stage leader training in the sports subject swimming at Jugend + Sport . A current degree in CPR, first aid and a Brevet II in lifeguarding are required, the minimum age is 20 years.

The actual training to become a swimming instructor lasts 50 days plus internships. Contents are in particular practical methodology and didactics and the pedagogical approach to groups and individuals. After an examination (theory, technology, methodology) the training concludes with a diploma as "SI".

Swimming instructors take a refresher course every two years.

Further training is possible as a specialization: Expert, cadre trainer , handicapped sports manager swimming, professional examination (BP) trainer in competitive sports, higher technical examination (HFP) trainer in top-class sports.
