Swinging (fiber plants)

Schematic of modern flax fiber processing: breaking, swinging, panting

The swing is an important part of the natural fiber processing for purification of the fibers of wood residues ( shives ) after the breaking and before the panting .

technology

Simple wings consisted of an upright board with one foot. The Schwinger took a handful of flax in his left hand and placed it on the top of the board so that half the length of the flax hung freely on the front side of the board. With his right hand he guided the swinging wood , a flat board with a slightly sharpened edge, and then knocked out the remains of the woody parts. In addition, vibrating machines were also used in which several knives with elastic handles sit radially on an axis of rotation and sweep past a vibrating stick over which the bundle of fibers is held.

Modern fiber digestion machines are also based on traditional processes, but use mechanical digestion sections in which breaking, swinging and panting are mechanically implemented in corresponding work steps. So-called vibration turbines are used here.
