history

The company was in 1895, at the height of the first bicycle boom in the USA, as Arnold, Schwinn & Company in Chicago ( Illinois founded). Initially, the partners were Adolf Arnold and the German émigré Ignaz Schwinn (1860–1948), who took over the company entirely in 1908 and organized it as the Schwinn Bicycle Company .

After the gradual expansion of production - Schwinn manufactured all types of bikes - and the rise to the leading bicycle manufacturer in the USA, the company missed the trend towards new types such as BMX and mountain bikes in the early 1980s . When the production facilities were out of date and the company management refused to build a new factory in Tulsa (Oklahoma), Schwinn got into a serious crisis and had to file for bankruptcy in 1992; Parts of the company and the brand were sold.
