Sam Zell

Sam Zell (born Shmuel Zielonka; born September 28, 1941 in Chicago ) is an American businessman and billionaire.

Zell is co-founder and chairman of the US investment company Equity Group Investments . In December 2019 the cell was Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranked 404 of the richest people in the world with a personal fortune of around 5.17 billion US dollars out.

Life

Zell was born in Chicago in 1941 as the son of Jewish immigrants from Poland . Zell's father changed the family name from Zielonka to Zell shortly after the family moved from Seattle to Chicago. Zell received a BA from the University of Michigan in 1963 . In 1966 he graduated from the University of Michigan Law School . After graduating from university, he and Robert Lurie founded Equity Group Investments, LLC , which has three subsidiaries: Equity Residential (major owner of apartments in the United States), Equity Office Properties (major owner of offices in the United States) and Manufactured Home Communities that controls the largest owner of American trailer parks . Furthermore, Zell founded a number of other companies. He controls the company SZ Investments LLC .

Zell is also the chairman of Capital Trust and Anixter International .

On April 2, 2007, Zell bought the newspapers Chicago Tribune , the Los Angeles Times and other media as well as the Chicago Cubs baseball team from the US media company Tribune Company . and gained control of the Tribune Company in August 2007.
