August Helmer
August Helmer (* 1818; † 1883) was Senator and City Syndic of Hildesheim .
From 1842, Helmer was initially an auditor at the Hildesheim City Court . In 1848 he was elected senator and in 1852 city syndic. He was a close collaborator of Paul Johann Friedrich Boysen in the introduction of gas lighting and sewer systems in Hildesheim. With Hermann Roemer he had a friendship between young and old.
On November 17, 1882 he was granted honorary citizenship. In 1891 Helmerstrasse in the east of the city was named after him.
