Paul Johann Friedrich Boysen (born June 6, 1803 in Heide ; † November 13, 1886 in Hildesheim ) was mayor from 1852 to 1875 and, from April 10, 1871, mayor of Hildesheim.

Life

As a member of the Boysen family, Paul Boyen was a son of Georg Wiebers Boysen (baptized May 9, 1770 in Lunden ; † November 17, 1830 in Heide) and his wife Catharina, née Arens (born December 30, 1772 in Heide; † 1855 in Hildesheim). The father was a provincial surgeon in the Norderdithmarschen region. The maternal grandfather named Johann Arens (1730-1809) was married to Rebecka Margarethe, née Kock.

Boysen studied law in Kiel, Bonn and Heidelberg and was a member of the Corps Holsatia Heidelberg (1818) and Holsatia (1821). After completing his studies, he became parish bailiff in Büsum and bailiff in Heide (Holstein) . In 1848/49 he was a member of the Joint Government (Schleswig-Holstein) , then Head of the Interior Department. In 1852 he was deposed.

In 1853 he became mayor of Hildesheim and syndic of the Hildesheim provincial landscape. During his term of office, gas lighting and the sewer system were introduced in Hildesheim. Together with his close colleague August Helmer , he was granted honorary citizenship on November 17, 1882 .

Honors

Boysen has received several awards. In 1845 he was made a knight of the Dannebrog. In 1868 he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class, when King Wilhelm visited, and in 1875, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of service, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class. In 1891 Boysenstrasse in the east of the city ​​was named after him.

family

Boysen married Sophia Louise Dorothea Scheteling on May 25, 1838 in Heide (* December 10, 1814 in Heide; † January 21, 1901 in Hildesheim). Her father Carl Andreas Schetelig (1775-1825) was a church provost in Norderdithmarschen and married to Anna Sophia Christiana, née Johannsen. The Boysen couple had a daughter and three sons, including the farmer Carl .
