Hermann Roemer

Georg Carl Hermann Roemer (born January 4, 1816 in Hildesheim , † February 24, 1894 ibid) was a German politician.

Life

The son of the judiciary Christian Friedrich Roemer (1776–1821) and Charlotte Wilhelmine Lüntzel (1786–1843) studied law and geology in Göttingen and Heidelberg from 1836 to 1839 ; got a position at the city court in Hildesheim in 1840 and was promoted to assessor in 1849 . In November 1852 Hermann Roemer was Senator in the council of the city of Hildesheim. The Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum in Hildesheim, founded in 1844, still bears his name today, as he played a decisive role in its establishment. From 1867 to 1890 he was a national liberal member of the Constituent Reichstag , the Reichstag of the North German Confederation and the German Reichstag . He was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors . With his retirement in 1882 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Göttingen and honorary citizenship of the city of Hildesheim.

His oldest brother, Friedrich Adolph Roemer (1810–1869) was a lawyer and natural scientist (geologist, botanist), director of the Clausthal mining academy ; likewise the younger brother Ferdinand von Roemer (1818-1891), the secret mountain ridge.
