An insight into the "SARCH"

The thematic focus is on the history of homosexuals and the determination of the fate of homosexual victims of Nazi terror.

Projects

The gay and lesbian archive in Hanover served and still serves as an important basis for research and projects.

Central registration of gay discrimination (ZEH)

→ For the main article, see Central Registration of Gay Discrimination

Since 1985, all "SARCH" materials have been evaluated for discrimination against homosexuals in the project Central Registration of Homosexual Discrimination (ZEH). In this context, over 2,000 cases have been compiled, evaluated and archived. Some of them have also been sorted into 40 case groups and recorded in the computer.

"Names and Faces"

The central project and the morally most important aspect for Rainer Hoffschildt is the "Names and Faces" project. Since 1987 attempts have been made to collect as much as possible about the fate of homosexual men persecuted during the National Socialist era . By 2011, around 15,000 victims were identified by name, including around 3,300 concentration camp prisoners , 1,300 prisoners from the Emsland camps and a total of 2,000 deaths. The aim of this ongoing project is to give these long-hushed victims of terror a name and face, and to tear them out of oblivion. This project has supported numerous stumbling blocks and regional research in many places, as well as the erection of further memorials for homosexuals. Material for exhibitions in memorials and museums was also contributed.
