Scifan was online - database for fans of science fiction - and fantasy - books .

It was started in 1999 by Jim Harris and Olivier Travers . In 2001 Harris decided to devote more of his time to writing. He won his girlfriend Sophie Bellais as a further supervisor. Since 2004, these two people have formed the database's supervisory team.

The website provided detailed bibliographical information, gave details of the sequence of books in series where possible, and organized series into universes with a uniform background. Books have also been grouped into subject areas such as “18th Century”, “Alternate History” and “Mathematic Fantasy”. A useful feature was access to lists of new and upcoming books.

There was also a search function with the ability to search for words or phrases in the database fields author , book title, series and universe.

The website gave users direct access to booksellers and second-hand bookshops , paying attention to the reputation of the dealers.

The website was discontinued after 2010 and was no longer accessible from 2016.
