Scream! If you can - Who's afraid to lose ... is a German Mystery - TV show based on the British show Release the Hounds radio station ITV2 based. It is moderated by Thore Schölermann and was broadcast on ProSieben for the first time on March 1, 2014 . The show was produced in a forest near London .

Idol

The TV show is based on the UK reality show Release the Hounds , which aired on ITV2 in October 2013. The show will be moderated by Reggie Yates . The show earned the broadcaster the best audience rating in ten years. Due to the success, further episodes were ordered for spring 2014.

concept

In the TV show, five friends have to complete five different tasks during one night in a forest. You can win up to 70,000 euros.

Candidates will be sent to the forest before sunset. There they have to go to five stations one after the other. Meanwhile, the sun goes down, so most tasks can be done in the dark. Each station comes from common themes from horror films (e.g. crucified scarecrows, car with a corpse in the trunk, lonely hut in the forest with human organs, cemetery, hanging talking child doll). A key must be found at each station.

After each key found, the candidates decide which of them will leave the group with the key. This goes back to a kind of camp in the forest. There one of five money boxes can be opened with the help of the key. However, the money is only won for the team if the candidate safely transports himself and the money packed in a backpack over a wall after a 90-meter run. He is followed by dogs that start a certain distance behind the candidate and try to catch up with him and throw him to the ground.

The amount of money in the boxes increases from 666 euros in the first to 33,333 euros in the fifth box. At the same time, the lead with which the candidates start over the dogs is shrinking.

reception

Even in the run-up to the show, the Association for the German Dogs (VDH) criticized the use of dogs in this show. Dogs would be represented "as beasts that hunt the candidate". This would “stir up fears and prejudices” among the audience.

The SPD -Politiker Martin Dörmann complained before the broadcast of the first episode that "the handling sharp and trained dogs" would not be right. Literally he meant that “dogs are ultimately not responsible because something can always go wrong and imitators are to be feared. ProSieben should refrain from such actions on the show ”. ProSieben spokesman Christoph Körfer then made it clear that there were “much more dangerous shows on German television”. In addition, the candidates were specially cast.

After the first edition, the show received mostly negative reviews. Above all, the boring shock moments were criticized.

Manuel Nunez Sanchez said onquotemeter.de that the "implementation of a principally exciting project" had failed miserably. He was stunned that one had to endure "amateur amateur theater". He also wondered "how can you seriously offer a show like this as great Saturday night entertainment". Overall, he described the show as a “lame forest walk with cuddly dogs” and found that ProSieben with the project “is not exactly covered in fame to say the least”.

Gesa Schwanke from Bild.de also found that the show was more of a “laughing stock” than a “scary show”. She stated that the place should appear eerie, but for "the TV viewer unfortunately for long stretches it seemed incredibly fake". She thought it was a shame "that neither living maggots nor the third key hidden in a glippy heart (...) could console the involuntary basic comedy of the show (...)".

Charisma

The program was shown for the first time on March 1, 2014 on ProSieben and, if the program was successful, should be shown on ProSieben Maxx from the second program onwards .
