Screening information dataset

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Screening Information Dataset ( English , abbreviated SIDS ) is a collection of properties and data about hazards of chemicals. Originally, only chemicals that are produced or imported in large quantities ( High Production Volume Chemicals , HPVC) were taken into account. In 2011 this restriction was lifted. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is responsible for putting together a SIDS .

The OECD stipulates which data is to be compiled and how. In each case a member state or an agency commissioned by it or an industrial organization draws up a draft which is examined by other member states. The member states adopt the revised versions at the SIDS Initial Assessment Meetings (SIAM, 1993–2011) and Cooperative Chemical Assessment Meetings (CoCAM, 2012–2014), which are held once or twice a year.

In addition to general information such as name, structural formula and CAS number, SIDS contain physical-chemical data such as melting point , vapor pressure and water solubility for each substance ; Environmentally and health-relevant information on biological degradation pathways, bioaccumulation behavior and toxicological data for various organisms .

Two differently detailed documents are created: The SIDS Initial Assessment Profile (SIAP) contains a summary of the endpoints and the conclusions. The SIDS Initial Assessment Report (SIAR) contains more detailed information and a list of the literature on which it is based.

In 2007, the list of High Production Volume Chemicals presented by the OECD comprised 4638 entries (substances, substance mixtures or commercial forms) for around 1050 chemicals. SIDS were published by November 2014; the documents are in preparation for around 600 additional substances.
