Scribonius (Bosporan King)
Scribonius († around 14 BC) was a brief around 16/15 BC BC usurper ruling the Bosporan Empire of unknown origin.
At 16 BC BC Scribonius revolted against the very old Bosporan king Asandros and managed to pull his troops on his side, whereupon Asandros committed suicide by voluntarily starving himself. Scribonius, who chose a grandson of King Mithridates VI. Issued by Pontos, Asandros could succeed him. He claimed to have been recognized by the Roman emperor Augustus as the new king of the Bosporan Empire and took Asandros' widow Dynamis as his wife to further secure rule . By order of Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa , the Pontic king Polemon I was supposed to drive out the usurper Scribonius, who was killed beforehand by the Bosporans because they hoped to avert Roman interference.
