Sebastián Ortiz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sebastián Ortiz (born August 4, 1977 ) is a Uruguayan athlete .

Career

Ortiz is active in the decathlon and pole vault . At the Junior South American Championships in 1995 he was junior South American champion in the pole vault. He jumped over a height of 4.55 meters. The following year he first broke the Uruguayan U-20 record in this discipline when he overcame 4.62 meters on May 12, 1996 in Montevideo . On November 21, 1996, he again set the Uruguayan national decathlon record, which is still valid today (June 15, 2015) in the Uruguayan capital with a performance of 6602 points . At the South American Championships in 1997 he won the bronze medal in the pole vault with a jump of 4.70 meters. This contradicts the fact that the IAAF only has a career record of 4.62 meters for him. However, the IAAF shows a different date (November 22, 1998) for his decathlon national record, which differs from the information provided by the Uruguayan Athletics Federation.
