Sebastia (Arabic: سبسطية, Hebrew: סבסטי) is a village in the Palestinian Territories with more than 4,000 inhabitants. Nearby are the ruins of the ancient royal city of Samaria . 1915-1946 who served railway Afula-Nablus the station Sebastia.
Attractions
According to religious tradition, the head of John the Baptist was buried in Sebastia after he was beheaded . In his honor, the Crusaders built St. John's Cathedral at this point (or in the immediate vicinity) , which was also the bishopric. Later the church was converted into the Nabi Yahya Mosque . You can visit the alleged prison of John the Baptist. Today Sebastia (or Sebaste ) is a titular diocese of the Roman Catholic Church .
