Sebastian Seemann

Sebastian Seemann († September 29, 1551 ) was abbot of the St. Urban monastery .

Life

Sebastian Seemann came from an Aargau council family and was elected abbot in 1534. 1537 awarded Pope Paul III. the rights of infulfilled prelates to him and his successors . On January 23, 1541, the Pope placed St. Urban under his immediate protection. In 1543 Abbot Sebastian was invited to the Council of Trento , but canceled because of his poor health and the financial situation of the abbey. He is the author of a monastery chronicle and was famous for his classical education. He made great contributions to the preservation of the abbey during the turmoil of the Reformation. He also worked to enhance economic and religious life in the Cistercian convents of Ebersecken and Rathausen .
