The sailors club Pier One is operated by the Deutsche Seemannsmission Unterweser e. V. and is thus a member of the German Seamen's Mission . It is located in Brake in the state of Lower Saxony , in the Wesermarsch district .

The seaman's club is located near the Braker harbor. The employees look after the seafarers on board the ships in Elsfleth, Brake and Nordenham. The club is mainly financed by donations, collections from the parishes, voluntary ship taxes from the shipping companies and contributions from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg. In 2018, 2,600 seafarers were welcomed to the club.

history

Since May 1, 2006, the ecumenical sailors' club Pier One has been open to seafarers from all over the world. Before that, there had been a seaman's home with 40 places since 1958. The club is organized in ecumenical partnership between the Catholic Community Association in Bremen and the German Seemannsmission Unterweser e. V. operated.

Club work

The work in the club, on ship visits in the ports, in the transport service and in special cases in the care in the hospital is done mainly by volunteers in addition to two full-time employees.

Furnishing

In the club there is a lounge equipped with billiards, games, musical instruments, WiFi and a small kiosk, as well as telephones for contacting home.
