Union Studio

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Union Studio in Munich was originally a recording studio founded in 1963 in the Solln district . It was in this studio that the well-known music producer Reinhold Mack began his career as a sound engineer .

background

The studio was founded in 1963 as Studio Allach and later renamed Union Studio . At first it only had one recording room, but after the expansion in 1969, a second recording room made a wider spectrum possible, and the operators were particularly suitable for pop artists for their productions. For example, Ivan Rebroff , Udo Jürgens , Rex Gildo , Bruce Low , Katja Ebstein , Howard Carpendale , Mary Roos and others recorded there.

Reinhold Mack, who was looking for a new job after completing his military service in the Bundeswehr , moved to Munich in the early 1970s. Assuming that he could simply start in a studio, learn everything there was to know and then possibly replace a new employee, he searched the Munich telephone directory for suitable studios and was invited to a performance in the Union Studio. He got the job as a sound engineer and initially mainly produced elevator music . He developed a particularly effective way of working, which quickly got around and caught the attention of Giorgio Moroder , who turned him off and founded Musicland Studios with him.

SSL-4000 mixer

In 1979 the first of a total of two SL4000 mixing consoles from Solid State Logic was installed in a further extension , so that mixing could now also be carried out. The newly created recording room was designed by Tom Hidley, a renowned studio builder from the USA . In 1981 the second SL4000 console was installed.

The studios closed in 1999.
