Eruption was a popular British disco and R&B band that had its greatest successes in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Band history

Greg "Big G" Perrineau founded the band in London in 1969, initially as a school band called Silent Eruption. The band members were next to the founder ( guitar ): Morgan Perrineau ( bass ), Gerry Williams ( keyboard ), Lindell Leslie (lead vocals) and Eric Kingsley ( drums ). They performed in numerous London clubs. Greg Perrineau shortened the band name to Eruption. Precious Wilson joined in 1974 as a backing singer . That year the young band, with Lindell Leslie as lead singer, won the RCA Soul Search Contest and released their first single, Let Me Take You Back in Time . Then Precious Wilson replaced Lindell Leslie as lead singer.

In 1977 the band first appeared as a backing band and opening act for Boney M , later Frank Farian produced the band for Hansa Records in Berlin . Her first world-famous single, a cover version of I Can't Stand the Rain , written by Ann Peebles, Don Bryant and Bernard Miller, rose to number 5 in the British charts in early 1978 and number 7 in Germany on the American Billboard Hot 100 the single reached number 18. A year later, their disc version of the Neil Sedaka song One Way Ticket (To the Blues) also made it into the charts. In 1979 lead singer Precious Wilson left the band to embark on a solo career. She was briefly replaced by singer Kim Davies.

Jayne James has been the lead singer of the band Eruption since 1980. With her, hits like Go Johnnie Go , Call My Name , You (You Are My Soul) and Runaway followed . In 1981, Eruption separated from Farian and was produced by Ralph Siegel . 1983/84 the record company Italo Heat signed the band and released the single Where Do I Begin . Eruption remained active with this line-up until the mid-1980s, followed by shows in a smaller line-up with the three original members Jayne James, Gerry Williams and Greg Perrineau. The group is still active today. B. 2003 an appearance in the Sat.1 broadcast Die Hit-Giganten .
