The Seevekanal represents an artificial connection between the Seeve and the Süderelbe . It branches off from the Seeve in the southeast of the town of Maschen and joins the Süderelbe in the Harburg inland port .

The channel was already in the 15./16. Century erected. This created a transport route between the Seeve and the Süderelbe. It is supplied with water at the Hörstener weir via the Seeve. In 1856 Phoenix AG , formerly known as "Albert and Louis Cohen", was established directly on the canal. It takes cooling water from the canal, in 2004 that was around 20,000 m³ per day. During the construction of the Phoenix Center , the bank was straightened in 2004, which violates the EU's water abstraction guidelines and the Hamburg Water Act. As a compensatory measure was this 2010 on Karnappwehr a fish ladder , the fish and small animals built the Aufwanderung possible.

Since 2013, the Seevekanal 2021 project has been working on the ecological improvement of the Seevekanal, primarily with laypeople and in small steps. In addition to the development of the body of water, the aim is also to develop awareness of the body of water.
