Sefyu (born April 20, 1981 in the 18th arrondissement of Paris ; real name Youssef Soukouna ) is a French rapper with Senegalese roots.

biography

Seyfu grew up in Paris. He was actually a promising football player who had even been hired by Arsenal London in his youth , before a knee injury blocked his upcoming professional career. He is still close friends with the French international Alou Diarra .

He turned to rap music, and in the late 1990s, he and four others formed the hip-hop crew Natural Court Circuit (NCC). Sefyu is the Verlan version of his first name Youssef. From 2001 he began to make a name for himself in the Parisian hip-hop scene and after having been represented with several tracks on well-known samplers and mixtapes, he released his first own mixtape in 2005, Molotov 4 . It was so successful that it was reissued in 2006.

With his debut album Qui suis-je? he then had his first major commercial success in 2006. It entered the French album charts at number 14 and stayed in the top 200 for over a year. The album sold over 50,000 times. Sefyu's trademark is that he does not show his face openly on recordings, but can be seen from behind, hidden or in the shadow.

In 2008 his second album was released: Suis je le gardien de mon frère? . It entered the charts at number 1 and was also able to establish itself in the French-speaking neighboring countries. It also helped Sefyu to become one of the big names in French hip-hop.
