The Sega Pico , also known as the Kids Computer Pico , is a video game console from Sega Toys. Marketed as " Edutainment ", the Pico's focus was on educational video games for children between the ages of 3 and 7. The Pico was launched in Japan in June 1993 and in North America and Europe in November 1994 , and later reached China . This was followed by the Advanced Pico Beena, which was launched in Japan in 2005. Although the Pico continued to be sold in Japan through the introduction of the Beena, the Pico was less successful in North America and Europe and sales ceased in early 1998 and was taken over by Majesco Entertainment . Sales of the Pico focused on children's education and featured titles supported by licensed cartoon characters franchise, including Sega's own Sonic the Hedgehog series. Sega sold a total of 3.4 million Pico consoles and 11.2 million game cartridges as well as over 350,000 Beena consoles and 800,000 cartridges.
