Segnas

Segnas is a village with 250 inhabitants in the municipality of Disentis / Mustér in the canton of Graubünden . It is at an altitude of 1331 meters above sea level. M.

The original name of the village is probably derived from the Latin word signum , which means something like signpost or marker .

The history of the farming village began with the construction of a chapel around the year 800. Later, in 1615, a new chapel was built in the same place. In 1637/38 the plague raged in the region; according to the altarpiece, 40 people died from it. The chapel was dedicated to the plague saints Rochus and Sebastian .

Because Segnas was spared fire during the French attack in 1799, the farmhouses, which are several hundred years old today, have been preserved. Many of them have been renovated in recent years and are now mostly used as holiday apartments. There is a meat drying plant and a soapstone company in the village .
