Duri Sialm
Duri Sialm (born July 3, 1891 in Segnas near Disentis / Mustér , † December 17, 1961 in Chur ) was a Romansh composer from the Surselva in the Swiss canton of Graubünden .
life and work
The father, Bistgaun Sialm , was the organist at the Disentis parish church. The highly talented Duri represented him even before he started school. Duri Sialm was sponsored by the organist of the Disentis Monastery , Father Leo Kurz . When he was eleven, Duri Sialm gave his first public piano concert.
Duri Sialm obtained the Graubünden teacher’s diploma and then moved to Geneva to perfect his skills at the local conservatory with Otto Barblan . The late Romanticism was a style-defining factor for him there .
At the age of 26, Duri Sialm went to the Maria Hilf College in Schwyz . In the meantime he worked as music director in Lichtensteig in Toggenburg .
In 1937 Sialm returned to Graubünden as a music professor at the Chur Cantonal School . From 1956 to 1961 he also played the organ of the Cathedral of St. Maria Himmelfahrt and conducted the Rezia and Alpina choirs .
The most important of his works is the 600-page collection "Consolaziun dell'olma devoziusa" ( Sursilvan , German consolation of the pious soul ), edited together with the historian Carli Fry . Duri Sialm wrote numerous cantatas , such as "Allas Stailas" (= To the stars ), " Benedikt Fontana " and "Da pacem, Domine" ( Latin , give peace, lord ).
He got the music reviews for the Bündner Tagblatt .
estate
The Sialm estate is stored in the Graubünden State Archives at the Cantonal Library of Graubünden . It was inventoried by Esther Sialm († 2005), Duri Sialm's daughter.
