Seiber (mountain)

The Seiber is a mountain range on the north bank of the Wachau . Seiber designates both the mountain and the village halfway up; the road leading by, which leads from Weißenkirchen in der Wachau to the Waldviertel , is also known as Seiberer Strasse (Landesstrasse L 78). The maximum gradient is almost 12% over a length of approx. 1 km and the highest altitude is reached at 738 m. The Seiber is also known as the Semmering of the Wachau .

The Seiber is known for the mountain race that was first held on June 8, 1924, the Seiberer Bergpreis . The second race on July 26, 1931 and the third on May 22, 1938 initially ended the series of competitions. From 1955 until the 1970s, various competitions such as special rally stages took place at irregular intervals. In 1986 the Seiberer Bergpreis was revived as a classic car competition for historic small cars as well as motorcycles and scooters and has been held regularly since then.
