Seirijai (Polish Sereje , German Serrey ) is a town (miestelis) in the Rajongemeinde Lazdijai , Lithuania .

history

Serrey was a lordship in today's Lithuania , which belonged to the Teutonic Order from 1383 to 1398 and from 1691 to 1793 together with the Tauroggen lordship to Prussia . Because of its isolated location as an enclave in Lithuania, which at that time still belonged to Poland, it was ceded to Poland- Lithuania as "compensation" for the second division of Poland , but fell back to Prussia as early as 1795 and in 1807 as part of the third division with New East Prussia Polish Duchy of Warsaw and finally to Russia in 1815 . Serrey was located between the eastern border of the province of East Prussia and the central section of the Memel , about 20 kilometers south of the Lithuanian city of Alytus .
