Seizo Watase

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seizō Watase ( Japanese わ た せ せ い ぞ う , actually: 渡 瀬 政 造 , Watase Seizō ; born February 15, 1945 in Kobe , Japan ) is a Japanese mangaka and illustrator.

Life

Shortly after his birth, he moved with his parents to Kitakyushu , where he graduated from high school in 1963. He then studied at the Waseda University in Tokyo Law and graduated in 1968 successfully. After working for an insurance company for more than 16 years, he quit his job in 1985 and has since worked mainly as a draftsman and mangaka.

Seizō Watase is also known for his posters, which depict idyllic worlds with clear colors and shapes and evoke associations with "the good old days" that may never have existed. A small museum in Kitakyushu exhibits a selection of these posters and other works.
