nature

Secondary packaging materials are packaging materials such as films, folding boxes, glasses, cans or lids. Such packaging can be made from a wide variety of materials, for example from paper , cardboard , polyethylene , polypropylene , polystyrene , aluminum , glass , porcelain or earthenware . Typical secondary packaging is outer packaging that is not in direct contact with the food, for example

  • Labels on glass wine bottles.
  • Bag that contains a defined number of primarily packaged candies.
  • Folding box of a foil-wrapped frozen pizza.

In contrast to this, primary packaging is packaging that comes into direct contact with the objects to be packed (e.g. food ). The hygienic requirements for primary packaging for food and pharmaceuticals are higher than those for secondary packaging.
