Seniors Protection Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Senior Citizens Protection Association or Gray Panther is an advocacy group for senior citizens in Germany and an umbrella organization of corresponding self-help associations . It was founded in 1975 by Trude Unruh in Wuppertal , initially as the Senior Citizens Protection Association (SSB) Wuppertal. The federal association was established in 1996. Today it is based in Berlin. Erika Lohe-Saul has been President and Federal Chairwoman since April 2016.

There were attempts to get involved in party politics: Unruh entered the Bundestag in 1982 as a non-party via the NRW state list of the Greens and stayed there until the end of 1990. When the Greens between Fundis and Realos increasingly fell out, Unruh founded Die Grauen - Graue in 1989 Panther . After the dissolution due to a donation affair, the successor parties Die Grauen - Generationspartei , Allianz Graue Panther and Graue Panther Deutschland were created in 2008 , which have been united as Allianz Graue Panther Germany since 2012 and were renamed Graue Panther in 2015 .
