Senoussi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Senoussi was a cigarette brand introduced by the German cigarette manufacturer Reemtsma in 1924 and marketed until 2002. Germany was the main market. The name may be linked to the Libyan religious brotherhood of the Senussi .

Except for a brief period in the 1950s, it was only available as a filterless cigarette. The name and the optics (a group of Arabs in Burnus) focused on the type as an oriental cigarette. When EU regulations came into force in 2002 that further restricted the maximum levels of nicotine and tar, the Senoussi disappeared from the shelves in Europe with countless other Oriental cigarettes. While the Senoussi still contained 1.3 mg of nicotine and 22 mg of tar shortly before the 1990s, this value had already been reduced to 1.0 mg of nicotine and 12 mg of tar in the last ones from 2002. In terms of price, it was always on par with other branded cigarettes. A special feature was the length, which was roughly the same as that of filter cigarettes, while most other filterless cigarettes were significantly shorter.
