Seraglio dances

Serail Dances is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 5).

Premiere

The waltz Serail Dances was performed five weeks after Johann Strauss Sohn's musical debut, also in the Casino Dommayer in Hietzing .

This time, however, it was a so-called benefit concert , a festival whose net profit did not go to the organizer but to the inviting artist (in this case Johann Strauss' son).

The evening with the title "An evening of serenity " wanted to appeal to young guests in particular, and so the hall was decorated with the allure of the exotic. The guests should feel like they are in the Seraglio of Constantinople .

The waltz itself, however, was composed in a classic Viennese way. His quick introduction became one of the young Strauss' most popular melodies and also found its way into the operetta Wiener Blut (performance song of the minister: Des Landes Reuss-Schleiz-Greiz Verweser ... ).
