Serena ChangeMan ZMF is a Change and Configuration Management - Software company Serena Software for software development in the professional mainframe environment of the company IBM (z / OS). ChangeMan ZMF has a front-end component that offers a graphical user interface within ISPF . With the standard installation it is possible to edit, compile and play assembler , COBOL and Java programs.

The current ChangeMan ZMF version is 8.1.1; it has been available since March 18, 2016 and is currently used by 90% of Fortune 500 companies in the mainframe environment.

Within ChangeMan ZMF, the source code files are managed in so-called change packages (hereinafter referred to as package). These packages go through a package life cycle and are audited in test environments before being played out and may require approvals.

After the productive installation of a package, all dependent files within the package are versioned on the productive baseline.

Features

  • The package-driven development of software ensures the coordination of the go-live
  • Automatic job creation for
    • the conversion of the source code files
    • the delivery of the executable files
    • planning the installation of the files
    • the rollback of a package installation
  • Version control of source code and binary files
  • Out-of-sync detection between source code and binary files
  • Simultaneous development in different packages to serialize changes
  • Email notifications
  • Built-in approval process for packages
  • Support CA Librarian, CA Panvalet, or IBM PDS and PDSE libraries
  • Adaptable assembler exits for complete adaptation of the software
  • XML service interface for adapting and windowing ChangeMan ZMF
  • Coordination of the installation of components between several servers / sites / LPars
  • Online and batch reports for all components managed by ChangeMan ZMF
  • Storage of historical information on all components in a central repository

Optional features

Enterprise release option

The Enterprise Release Option (ERO) offers the possibility of coordinating changes using different packages using different applications and merging them into one release. ERO offers a release lifecycle in which business-wide changes can be played out and tested together in test environments.

With ERO, different releases can be developed at the same time and tested on different test environments. The different releases can have dependencies that are resolved by ERO during development and testing.

IMS option

The IMS option enables the administration of IMS DB / DC applications within ChangeMan ZMF.

The IMS option is not visible to the user on the interface, most changes arise for the administrators of ChangeMan ZMF. The IMS regions, libraries and component types must be defined for the IMS option in the administration interface.

Info option

The info option enables two-way communication between ChangeMan ZMF and other IFPS / TSO applications.

Load balancing option

The Load Balancing Option extends ChangeMan ZMF by the possibility of distributing users who log on to ChangeMan ZMF to different ChangeMan ZMF instances on different LPARs or Sysplexes.

This distribution can be based on the load of an environment or on the manual assignment of a user to a ChangeMan ZMF system.

Merge and Reconcile Option

The Merge and Reconcile Option (M + R) simplifies the processing of different versions of a source code file.

M + R enables the comparison of up to 8 history versions of a file with a record length of up to 240 characters.

In particular, M + R offers four different tools to join source code semi-automatically:

  • Reconcile
  • Consolidate
  • Synchronize
  • JCL Compare

Online Forms Manager option

The Online Forms Manager Option (OFM) offers the possibility to present all tasks that arise during the productive implementation of software that cannot be automated in a task list to the responsible person online and to record the execution of the tasks.
