Seroplasm

The Seroplas Society of Plasma Science and plasma collection GmbH was a plasmapheresis -Unternehmen. Seroplas belonged to Hoechst between 1976 and 1992 . After the merger of Hoechst AG with Rhône-Poulenc , Seroplas was renamed Aventis Bio-Services (Seroplas) GmbH. The pharmaceutical division of Aventis is now part of Sanofi .

history

Seroplas was founded in 1971, a plasmapheresis was opened in Vienna in the same year. In 1977 the plasma donation center was closed due to orders from the health authorities and legal changes.

From 1972 the German Green Cross was the main shareholder, in 1976 the company was taken over by Hoechst.

Hepatitis scandal

In the 1990s, the company was involved in a plasma donation scandal in Austria. Patients were infected with hepatitis. In 2001 the process ended with a settlement. The 259 infected received 7.5 million euros (around 100 million ATS ), but originally they wanted to sue for 75 million euros (around 1 billion schillings).
