Serra do Mar
The Serra do Mar (Portuguese for mountain range of the sea ) is a 1500 km long mountain range in southeastern Brazil in the states of Espírito Santo , Rio de Janeiro , São Paulo , Paraná and Santa Catarina , which runs parallel to the Atlantic Ocean. Its average height is between 500 and 1300 m and its highest point is the Pico Maior de Friburgo with 2316 m.
Since the mountains do not develop continuously, the different parts have been given different names, e.g. B. Serra de Bocaina , Serra de Paranapiacaba , Serra Negra and Serra do Indaiá . The Serra do Mar was once made up of monsoon forest, but most of it was cut down.
