Protected areas in Peru and main tourist activities

The 1993 Constitution of Peru recognizes the natural resources and diversity of this country's ecosystems as national heritage. In 1992 the Instituto Nacional de Recursos Naturales was founded as a department of the Ministry of Agriculture. It is subject to the Sistema Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas por el Estado which keeps a list of all protected areas in Peru. In the past there have repeatedly been disputes over competence in nature conservation between the executive agencies of the Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture ( Instituto Nacional de Recursos Naturales ) and the Ministry of the Environment ( Servicio Nacional de Areas Naturales Protegidas por el Estado ).
