Specialty

Sessions 2000 was Jarre's last release at Sony Music at the time and was more intended to fulfill his contract and to be able to break away from the label instead of achieving commercial success. It includes 6 tracks; each represents a jam session that Jarre held with musician friend Francis Rimbert over the course of a year. Instead of title names, the pieces were given a date, which very likely represents the date of the respective recording. After the commercially unsuccessful Métamorphoses, the album was again a change of style and a return to old structures (6 instrumental pieces with a similar theme). The style is more likely to be assigned to (partly experimental) jazz, which was well received by some listeners, but caused irritation and rejection among the fans. With number 140 in the French charts, it is one of the worst placements of a music album by Jean-Michel Jarre. (Métamorphoses still reached 7th place)
