Seweryn Blumsztajn (born May 2, 1946 in Breslau ) is a Polish journalist and was a member of the anti-communist opposition in the People's Republic of Poland .

In the 1960s he was a member of the political youth organization Walterowcy under the leadership of Jacek Kuroń . He was also a member of the Poszukiwaczy Sprzeczności Club ( Club of Opposition Seekers ), a non-formal discussion club of Warsaw students. In 1965 he was imprisoned for the first time for distributing the "Open Letter to the Polish United Workers' Party". In 1968 he participated in the March 1968 riots in Poland and co-organized a demonstration in Warsaw . Arrested again, he was sentenced to two years in prison but given an amnesty in 1969. Since 1976 he has been the editor of the information bulletin KOR ( Committee for the Defense of Workers ) and since 1977 a member of the KSS KOR , the committee for social self-defense , as well as the editor of Bulletin AS . From 1981 to 1989 he emigrated to France .

He has been the editor of Gazeta Wyborcza since 1989 and is currently the editor-in-chief of the Warsaw local edition Gazeta Stołeczna .
