Sextus Caesius propertianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sextus Caesius propertianus (full name form Sextus Caesius Sexti filius property ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 1st century AD . Individual stations of his career are known through an inscription. His career is in the inscription as cursus inversus , d. H. in descending order.

The Optatus military career consisted of two posts. As prefect , he initially took over the management of the Cohors III Hispanorum , which was stationed in what would later become the province of Germania superior . He then became a tribune in the Legio IIII Macedonica , which was stationed in Mogontiacum (Mainz). He received two military awards for his achievements: a Hasta pura and a Corona aurea .

After that, propertianus was given the management of the imperial property, inheritance matters and the management of the office for petitions ( A libellis ) ( procurator Imperatoris a patrimonio et hereditatium et a libellis ). According to Hans-Georg Pflaum, propertianus probably played an important role in the events in early January 69 when the Legio IIII Macedonica sided with Vitellius . His military awards and his appointment as procurator Imperatoris should therefore represent a reward from Vitellius.
