Seymour Saul Lipschutz (* 1931 ) is an American mathematician and the author of textbooks in the Schaum's Outlines book series .

Lipschutz studied mathematics at Brooklyn College and received his doctorate in 1960 from the Courant Institute of New York University under Hans Heinrich Wilhelm Magnus (On the braid group). He taught at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and later at Temple University .
