Reza Mirkarimi

Reza Mirkarimi , also Reza Mir-Karimi (born February 28, 1966 in Tehran ) is an Iranian filmmaker . He studied graphic arts at the Fine Arts University and began his filmmaking career in 1987 with a series of short films. He also created two teen television series, The Adventures of Aftab and Mrs. Aziz (1993) and Hemmat School Kids (1995), both of which ran on Iranian television. In 2000 he presented his first feature film, The Child and the Soldier . Mirkarimi has served on the juries of several film festivals , including the International Tehran Short Film Festival and the International Children Film Festival of Isfahan .

In the run-up to the 2013 Academy Awards , Iran withdrew Mirkarimi's film A Cube of Sugar ( Ye haben ghand ) as a candidate for Best Foreign Language Film . This was a reaction to the anti-Islamic film Innocence of Muslims .
