Sezgin Özcimbomlu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sezgin Özcimbomlu (1967 - June 28, 2013 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish football fanatic and "legendary fan" as well as a member of Istanbul's ultrAslan Galatasaray . Sezgin was a prominent "amigo" of the club. This is the name given to those in Turkey who whip the spectators at a football game. Commonly he was called "Cimbomlu Sezgin" ("Sezgin the Cimbom fan") or "Amigo Sezgin" ("Sezgin, the Amigo"). His original name was Sezgin Kaçmaz.

In 1983, at the age of 16, Sezgin fell from the roofed grandstand in a joyful dance for his team's goal against FC Kuusysi Lahti and has since been paraplegic and in a wheelchair. From this point on, Sezgin's popularity increased in the fan community, as he was present at every game of his team and was a noticeable figure in the wheelchair. In addition, many stars used to share their goal celebration with him.

Sezgin was married. His wedding ad was also in the club's colors and the couple's wedding attire consisted of Galatasaray jerseys. Sezgin watched his team's games inside the stadium in his wheelchair and often whipped the spectators. Sometimes the crowd also chanted his first name as a request to have the crowd perform a "threesome" ( üçlü ). In Turkey, this is used to describe various choreographed storms of enthusiasm that are in some way related to the number three.

In 2008, Kaçmaz had his surname changed to Özcimbomlu ("The true Cimbom fan"). Originally, Sezgin also wanted to change his year of birth to 1905, the year the association was founded, and the place of birth to Galatasaray. Sezgin also received Galatasaray's “Fan of the Year” club award. Due to its popularity, the housing estate in which he lived was renamed "Özcimbomlu Sezgin Apartmanı".

Sezgin died in hospital on June 28, 2013 and was buried in Kulaksız Cemetery with great sympathy and participation from Galatasaray's leadership. Numerous media reported on Sezgin's death.

Obituaries
