UltrAslan
ultrAslan is the fan group of the Turkish sports club Galatasaray . It represents the largest group of its kind in Turkey.
The group was founded on January 20, 2001 after various smaller fan bases decided that a top European club like Galatasaray (the football division won the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Supercup last year) needed a large and organized fan base. As a result, ultrAslan was created under the leadership of Alpaslan Dikmen , who was the main coordinator until his accidental death on September 27, 2008. A suitcase word was chosen as the name , which is composed of the terms Ultra and Aslan ("the lion ").
ultrAslan is set up in over 60 countries around the world (on five continents), which has made a name for itself for its presence at away games. So were z. For example, in the quarter-finals of the 2013 UEFA Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu, an estimated 20,000 Galatasaray supporters (organized by ultrAslan) were present to support their team, although according to UEFA regulations, "only" 5% of the stadium capacity is available for away fans.
Furthermore, ultrAslan is also present at (away) games of the numerous other branches of the club, such as wheelchair basketball or water polo .
The group is famous for their inventive choreography and the use of Bengal fires . At the derby against Fenerbahçe on December 4, 2001, they ensured that in future the use of Bengali fires in Turkish leagues was completely banned and punished with heavy fines. More than 3,000 Bengali fires were used that evening and the game had to be paused for several minutes.
In contrast to many other fan groups in European football, ultrAslan is patriotic but by and large apolitical. She is usually very critical of the club's management and has a great influence on the club's transfer policy. It strictly rejects any financial aid and the distribution of free tickets from the association and is financed by donations and contributions from the members as well as the marketing of self-created and produced articles. Similar to other ultra groups in Europe, it stands up against the commercialization of football.
