Shōwa Hikōki Kōgyō KK ( Japanese 昭和 飛行 機 工業 株式会社 , Shōwa Hikōki Kōgyō Kabushiki gaisha , German Shōwa Flugzeugwerk AG , English SAIC - Showa Aircraft Industry Co., Ltd. ) is a Japanese stock corporation headquartered in Akishima-shi , prefecture Tokyo , today's Tokyo metropolitan area. The company was founded in Akishima in 1937, in the 12th year and 6th month of Shōwa - Tennō , as an armaments manufacturer for aircraft . During the Second World War it produced the largest number of the Japanese-made L2D , a license build of the US Douglas DC-3 and other military machines.
