Shūji Sano

Shūji Sano ( Japanese 佐野 周二 , Sano Shūji , actually: Sekiguchi Shōsaburō ( 関口 正 三郎 ); born November 21, 1912 in Tokyo Prefecture ; died December 21, 1978 ) was a Japanese film actor .

Live and act

Sanō first entered a trading company in Kōbe in 1935, but then applied to the Shōchiku film company and was accepted as one of 1,000 applicants. His 1936 debut in the film “The Z-Men, the Young Storm Troop” was followed by three more films that year. And soon he belonged with Ken Uehara ( 上原 謙 ; 1909–1991) and Saburi Shin to the "three draft horses of Shōchiku".

It reached its peak in 1941. He was still active during the war , despite various conscripts. During that time he lost his wife and eldest daughter.

After the war, Sano continued to perform, then went into business for himself in 1953 and also appeared on television from 1965. He died unexpectedly of heart failure in 1978 .

In total, Sano appeared in 147 films.
