The Shadoks ( French Les Shadoks ) is a French animated series in three seasons. A new edition in a modified form was created in 2000 under the title "Le Big Blank".

content

The bird-like creatures Shadoks are looking for a home. First they land on earth, later they decide to build their own planet. The Shadoks are organized strictly hierarchically, but they only communicate to a very limited extent. The language of the Shadoks consists of only four syllables that can be combined in different ways: GA, BU, ZO and MEU. The only things they can do with their projects are pumps, cycling and hitting their heads with hammers and similar objects. At their head is the king Shadoko I , who supports the magicians. The other main characters are an admiral with an eye patch, the miracle plumber and Professor Shadoko. The sexless individual beings serve the general public only, signs of individuality only appear in the form of illnesses. If a Shadok dies while completing a task, the next one immediately takes his place. Any remains are carelessly swept aside. The scientists of the Shadoks are constantly busy with the improvement of the world, but this never leads to positive effects for the individual, rather to more and more work on the ubiquitous pumps and pedals.

In the course of their adventures, the Shadoks meet an omnivorous insect, Gégène , which rules the earth and devours trees and entire mountains, including the Shadoks. On the other hand, there is the Gibis, a mixture of dog and amoeba, who are constantly grinning and all of them wear melons .

The series was produced in France from 1968 to 1973 and broadcast by ORTF .

In Germany, the first two seasons, spoken by Manfred Steffen , were broadcast from 1969 in the original order in the late-night regional programs. The individual episodes were later cut into episodes of twelve minutes in length and broadcast, among other things, in the nationwide children's program Plumpaquatsch . In the early 1980s, a compilation of around 30 episodes was released in off-theaters. In 2007 the first and third seasons in German on DVD appeared under the titles Die Shadoks und die Gibis Reise zur Erde and Die Kinder der Shadoks .
