Shadows of Knight
The Shadows of Knight are an American blues band from Chicago playing a mix of British blues and the blues of their hometown.
history
The band was formed in 1964 as The Shadows , but when they found out about the existence of the British group of the same name, they changed their name to Shadows of Knight , which has an English sound, which is not unfavorable at a time when everyone was emulating the English bands was. After some practice, they became the house band of The Cellar Club in Arlington Heights, Illinois, entertaining over 500 teenagers Saturday and Sunday for six months. There they discovered Bill Traut and George Badonsky for Dunwich Records, a sub-label of Atlantic Records .
In December 1965, her most successful piece, Gloria, appeared . The original by Van Morrisons Them was boycotted by some American radio stations. The Shadows of Knight had the line “she comes in my room, then she make me feel alright” (she comes into my room, then she makes me happy) replaced by “she called out my name, that made me feel alright” ( she called my name which made me happy). The shorter, radio-compatible version reached top positions on local radio stations and 10th in the singles charts , and more than 1 million singles were sold.
They recorded their first album in 1966, but the original line-up quickly disbanded and their fame faded in the late 1960s. Dunwich Records gave up the band and sold the master tapes for a dollar. The singer Jim Sohns then repeatedly led various new editions of the band. In 1983 he was jailed for three years for drug offenses. After his release and the reissuing of their records by various labels, their popularity rose again, and after touring with Cheap Trick and The Romantics, two new albums came out.

Quotes
- "The Stones, Animals and Yardbirds took the Chicago Blues and gave it an English interpretation. We've taken the English version of the Blues and re-added a Chicago touch." (The Stones, Animals and Yardbirds took the Chicago Blues and interpreted it the English way. We took the English version of the blues and gave it the Chicago touch back.)
