Bill Traut

William R. Bill Traut (* approx. 1929; † June 5, 2014 in Pacific Palisades ) was an American jazz musician (saxophone) and arranger , who in later years became known primarily as a music producer , publisher and manager.

Live and act

Traut began his career in the 1940s as a musician and arranger in various big bands . In the 1960s he worked as a studio musician in various musical fields such as rock, pop, classical, folk, jazz, blues and country. He wrote the title Shelley's World for Oscar Peterson . From the beginning of the 1970s, he primarily worked as a producer of rock and jazz bands such as Shadows of Knight , Styx , Siegel-Schwall Band , The American Breed , Coven , The Will-O-Bees , the Count Basie Orchestra and the Buddy Rich Big band ; He was also head of the label Dunwich Records , a sub-label of Atlantic Records and Wooden Nickel Records in Chicago , and CEO of the fusion label Headfirst in Los Angeles in the 1980s . He was the owner of Open Door Management , which looked after artists such as Kurt Elling , Janis Siegel , Alan Pasqua , Alan Broadbent , Peter Erskine , Fred Hersch , Jon Hendricks , Oregon , Tony Williams and Shelly Berg .
