Janis Siegel (born July 23, 1952 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American singer and is known as a member of the vocal quartet The Manhattan Transfer .

Live and act

Janis Siegel has been a member of The Manhattan Transfer since 1972. From the beginning of the 1980s she built up a successful solo career at the same time. Her first solo album, Experiment in White , was released in 1981 and her second album, At Home , was nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Vocal Jazz .

In 1985 Siegel was a member of a group called Sing, Sing, Sing along with Jon Hendricks , Bobby McFerrin, and Dianne Reeves . At the end of the 1980s Siegel began a cooperation with the pianist and composer Fred Hersch , with whom she recorded modern songs by songwriters such as Joni Mitchell , Marvin Gaye and others. This was followed by Slow Hot Wind in 1994 and The Tender Trap in 1999 , which she recorded with well-known jazz musicians such as Michael Brecker and Hank Crawford . The following year she moved to Telarc, where she released I Wish You Love and Friday Night Special in 2003.

On the album Sketches of Broadway , she recorded her interpretations of lesser-known Broadway melodies. In addition to The Manhattan Transfer, Siegel is a member of Bobby McFerrin's group Voicestra . She is also on the album Transit of Addison free to hear.
