John Di Martino

John Di Martino (also John DiMartino , * 1959 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz musician ( piano , arrangement , composition ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Di Martino studied with Lennie Tristano and Don Sebesky ; he then worked in the New York jazz scene from the late 1980s; first recordings were made in 1990 with Freddy Cole ( Doin 'Things for Him ). In the following years he also acted as a companion for vocalists such as Jon Hendricks , Keely Smith , Billy Eckstine and Janis Siegel ; He has also worked as arranger and pianist on the recordings of Gladys Carbo , Vince Ector , Bob Kindred , Simone Kopmajer , Gloria Lynne , Nicki Parrott , Houston Person , Bobby Sanabria , Freddy Cole ( This Love of Mine , 2005) and Grady Tate . He released several albums under his own name. For many years Di Martino was a member of Ray Barretto's band New World Spirit , for whom he also arranged such as portraits in Jazz and Clave (with James Moody , Kenny Burrell , Joe Lovano and Steve Turre ) and the Grammy- nominated album Contact . He currently forms the accompanying duo of singer Giacomo Gates with Ed Howard . In the field of jazz, according to Tom Lord , he was involved in 137 recording sessions between 1990 and 2018.
