Ed Howard

Edward U. "Ed" Howard (* 9. April 1960 in Washington, DC ) is an American jazz - bassist .

Howard grew up in Washington DC, where he attended Federal City College and had lessons with Marshall Hawkins. In 1981 he was a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts and studied with Buster Williams . His career began in the early 1980s with Roy Haynes , on whose album Homecoming (1992) he played. He then worked at Clifford Jordan from 1983 to 1992 ; first recordings were made with Jordan and Jaki Byard ( Dr. Chicago , 1988). In the late 1980s he recorded with Richie Cole ( Pure Imagination ); from the beginning of the 1990s he worked a. a. with Gary Thomas , Steve Wilson , Victor Lewis ( Three Way Conversations , 1998), Seamus Blake ( Echonomics , 1999), Eddie Henderson ( Manhattan In Blue , 2005), Johannes Enders ( Monolith , 2002), Shirley Horn ( May the Music Never End , 2003) and David Berkman . Howard, who also played in the Dave Stryker / Steve Slagle band with Joe Locke , Lynne Arriale , Roseanna Vitro , Stefano Bedetti and Karrin Allyson , is influenced by Charles Mingus .
