life and work
After the Second World War, Simonin wrote detective novels ( Roman noir ) in a language interspersed with argot vocabulary that is out of date today. The most famous was Touchez pas au grisbi! To understand the argot , Simonin wrote a dictionary with the title Le Petit Simonin illustré, alluding to the Petit Larousse illustré. Dictionnaire d'usage (Paris 1957, from 1958 with a foreword by Jean Cocteau ), 2nd edition ud T. Petit Simonin illustré par l'exemple (Paris 1968).
