life and work

After the Second World War, Simonin wrote detective novels ( Roman noir ) in a language interspersed with argot vocabulary that is out of date today. The most famous was Touchez pas au grisbi! (with a foreword by Pierre Mac Orlan ), Paris 1953 (made into a film by Jacques Becker , German film and book title: When night falls in Paris , Vienna / Munich / Basel 1958).

To understand the argot , Simonin wrote a dictionary with the title Le Petit Simonin illustré, alluding to the Petit Larousse illustré. Dictionnaire d'usage (Paris 1957, from 1958 with a foreword by Jean Cocteau ), 2nd edition ud T. Petit Simonin illustré par l'exemple (Paris 1968).
